The Karrlin Field Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Karrlin Field Memorial Fund.  The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support for scholarships and charitable purposes related to causes that honor the life, creative works, and legacy of Karrlin Field.   Karrlin Field (known to all as "Karrli") was an aspiring and talented writer of stories, poetry, and novels, and a designer of imaginative and dramatic computer games.   Although she died in 2004 at the age of 17 due to the effects of cystic fibrosis, she left behind an impressive amount of creative work.  The Karrlin Field Memorial Fund's purpose is to assist and encourage young women to follow their creative dreams, as Karrli would have wanted to.

Initially, scholarships awarded from this fund will be used to provide financial support to female students who are pursuing a college education in computer game development and design at the college Karrli dreamed of attending, the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) in Tempe, Arizona (www.uat.edu)

Scholarships will be awarded by a committee of UAT faculty and staff on a competitive basis to deserving students who in the judgment of the scholarship committee best demonstrate the academic and creative qualifications needed to succeed in the field of computer game development and design. The scholarship committee in awarding this scholarship will consider the academic performance and financial need of scholarship applicants.  The amount of the Scholarship is initially planned to be $1,000 (one thousand dollars) for tuition, awarded twice per year in the fall and spring semesters.

The University of Advancing Technology Announces The Karrlin Field Memorial Scholarship for Women Studying Computer Game Development and Design

Tempe, Ariz., March 1, 2006 — Beginning in Summer 2006, women pursuing an education in computer game development and design at the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona (UAT) will be eligible for a scholarship created just for them: The Karrlin Field Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 towards tuition and other expenses twice per academic year. The Scholarship isn't just an answer to the needs of women struggling to get ahead in the competitive world of video games — it is also a tribute to a very talented young artist and writer whose memory is being kept alive for a worthy cause.

The scholarship is named in honor of Karrlin Field, a prospective student at UAT who passed away due to the effects of cystic fibrosis at the age of 17 in 2004. Karrli, as she was known, was an aspiring and talented designer of video games and computer games, as well as a prolific writer of stories, poetry and novels. At the time of her death, Karrli was close to realizing her dream of attending UAT, which offers degrees in Software Engineering and Multimedia related to game programming and game design, respectively. Karrli's family created the Scholarship to benefit other young women who aspire to follow their creative dreams.

The Karrlin Field Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Karrlin Field Memorial Fund, administered by the Chester County Community Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization in Pennsylvania. The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support for scholarships and charitable purposes related to causes that honor the life, creative works and memory of Karrlin Field. The UAT Scholarships will be awarded to deserving female students who best demonstrate the academic and creative qualifications needed to succeed in the field of computer game development and design.
